OMG . . .

This patent application is SICK

It isn't the Microsoft connection that's sick. It's using the example of comic books as an interest that is so out of the mainstream as to list it on a conventional dating site is counterproductive.

The geek interest stigmata strikes again.

On another front, this domain is going away. Point your browsers to the original url -- operationmindfsck.blogspot.com for my irregularly delivered wit and / or wisdom.

I never meta grrl like you . . .

Meta-bloggery while waiting for the movie . . .

1. ISO a decent template for Blogger / Blogspot for this here blog. I thought I found one a bit ago, but is was just fscked. I found a number of blue/white WoW Wrath of the Litch King themes that were both smoking hot and Northrend-ice cool. However, I do NOT want a WoW theme; this blog is about more than WoW. Besides, I like green / yellow (my colors, natch). The "right" theme reminds me of what a former SCOTUS justice once said about pornography: I cannot define porn but I know it when I see it.

I failed my Will save against using an off-color joke: "How's the legal research going on that 1st amendment obscenity case, Mr. Chief Justice . . . ?"

The rest of the joke is left as an exercise for the mind's eye. Bring brain bleach if you need it.

2. I wish I had the mad HTML / graphics skillz to do my own CSS style sheet. I may know someone with those mad-level skillz . . .

3. Playlist: Presented herein is my "Crime" playlist. In the definition I include typical mano-a-man0 violence as well as piracy, roguery, highway robbery, etc. That's why the varous versions of "Whiskey in the Jar" make the list.

Finally, tomorow: I'm supposed to meet Erin somewhere for WoW discussons and planning for the guild. Or something.

Back To What Passes For "Normal"

Leading off with some meta-bits:

I am proud to welcome the unique voice of my oldest friend Downstrike to my blogroll. I've known him since our first day of kindergarten at ol' H-R. Our lives have taken a great many turns since then. Thanks to an alert ex-wife #1 and classmates.com, we found each other on the Innerweb. Check out his bloggity goodness here and here.

I also added Catnip and Fionn, aka Michelle and David, to the roll.

SotR: It feels like I'm past the worst of the tummy bug that had me in its evil grip. I actually feel like eating again. I hope this does not hose my weigh-in on Wednesday.

I spent much of the time ill finishing Storm Front
I'm not a big mystery fan, despite an addiction to juvenile mysteries like Nancy Drew / Hardy Boys books when I was seven or so. I dropped mysteries when I found Heinlein and Doc Smith's sci-fi, the science and military history on the shelves in the school library. As for fantasy, I did not read anything remotely fantastic until I started playing D&D in the Navy; Tolkien, the Pern series, Kurtz' Deryniverse and Robert E. Howard's Conan.
Then Iz turned me on to Jim Butcher's series The Dresden Files.
The best way to think of this series is "Harry Potter meets Sam Spade."
All I'm going to say is "if you like either hardboiled detective fiction or modern fantasy, you'll probably like Storm Front."

Pulling posts and other things

Pulled the Firefly vids because EewToob was not cooperating with the plan. Well, things don't always go smooth, as they say on Firefly.

Today's going to be a fun day. Going out for a WW-friendly Mongolian BBQ later, and I'm actually going to play a bit of WoW for the first time in a almost a week.

Got a bit of work done on both the Imperial Miresseia D&D and my Firefly games. Funny, FF's the first time I've run games in someone else's 'Verse since my semi-legendary Lodi Traveller:The New Era military-themed sf game back in the days before we impeached Presidents for lying about extracurricular nookie. Duncan, aka He-Who-Hosts-www.miresseia.org, should have the Wordpress blog I use for campaign news straightened out soon so I can post relevant news in its own blog. The original WP blog is for the "Nordmark News" from the original Miresseia campaign area.

Next Serenity game is 15 April; will know more tonight about next D&D game after talking to Iz.

Initial Gratituous WTF Is This Blog About?

OK, boys and girls...this blog will be about: geekdom, politics, gaming (tabletop RPGs like D&D and the Serenity RPG, World of Warcraft, Warhammer 40K Dawn of War), computers, Guinness, sf/f, ancient and medieval history, spirituality, art, military science, cats, weight loss, tech support and love.

It will not be about big-money sports, TV, big-money sports on TV, domestic American "beer," fishing, hunting, SUVs, game consoles, most anime, Fox News, the stock market, local TV news, the mainstream media godhead, Hollywood celebrities . . . except to mock them and heap upon them the contempt they so manifestly deserve.

What about the name of this here blog? Easy. "Operation Mindf*ck" is from the Illuminatus! trilogy by the late Robert Anton Wilson and the late Robert Shea. Think of it as The X-Files meets the Marx Brothers (including Karl!) meets very obscure 1960s cultural referants. I replaced the conventional four-letter vulgarism in the original with "fsck," which is a Unix command to verify and repair a computer's filesystem.
