Daily Bloggery 2009-05-28: " . . . there is Another."

Yes. Why yes there is.

And you know what? The terrain on this side of the Rubicon is even better.

ON TO ROME!

Daily Bloggery and Link-a-rama™ 2009-04-04: Good Things™

1. Amtrak. I've always loved trains, and being car-less but involved with someone has made me a lot more familiar with Amtrak. My first ride on the Capital Corridor train Sac to Fremont last week was a lot of fun. Even the ride home, as reluctant as I was to leave Gwenny, was still fun. The ability to engage in occasional acts of public CCD exposure (aka shutterbuggery) -- I took a lot of pics of the Naval Reserve Transport Fleet in Martinez because one day I want to show Baby Kanenwisher (my grand, once said child is born and can understand the significance) what his grampa's grampa did in WW2 (namely, built Liberty Ships in the Kaiser Shipyards).

2. The Unitarian Jihad. This one's for Diane and her mom, who know why, where and how.
Oh! BTW, my Unitarian Jihad Name is: Brother Dagger of Enlightenment. What's yours?

3. Health: Left side wounds look real real good, the heal-negative sluff is slowly being banished by the frequent dressing changes. I've been fighting either a bit of a tummy bug or I'm reacting to the Glucophage™ I'm taking to keep my SGL under control. Teh runz are teh suck. Anyway, good SGL -- under 110 -- over last 12 hrs. Walking really helps!

4. Gwenny. Every day, I thank Goddess for bringing this magnificent woman into my life. I have nearly thirty documented (but unshared as a collection) Reasons Why I Love Gwenny. Reason 29: "Helps get me through the bad days and makes the good ones even better." Yesterday the tummy bug and a meeting I was forced to stand up at were together kicking my head in. Gwenny was right there, encouraging and expressing affection while I was Not At My Best. Sometimes that is all we need.

5. WoW: Martkishar is level 79. He should hit 80 sometime next week. Or, if Gwenny and I play WoW together all day Sunday, maybe even Sun night. I do not think that playing WoW all day on Sunday is very high on our list of fun things to do together. I hope v3.1 is released this week. Dual specing, here I come!

Daily Bloggery and Linky-links 2009-04-01: the umlaut-free zone and SotR

Health: SGLs continue to be in the green zone (126 this morning). Was a bit more tired than normal this morning. Later reading mid-90s after walking. Time to eat!

Monthly goals:
Goals met: lost 5 lbs, socializing in RT / RS once a week.
Goals Not Met: Totally avoiding the Red Zone in terms of SGL, Not visiting Sophia.
Did not meet goals because of van issues and because I missed doses.

April Fools Jokes: YouTube and Google have good ones. Here's WotC's for D&D. Even Starbucks got into the act.

Gwenny: The more I learn about this remarkable lady, the more I love her. And that's no joke!

Daily Bloggery 2009-03-23: Another one rides the bus

The following is a rant.

People: I am currently taking public transit to get the things done that I need to do. I accept that when you take public transit, that you will encounter people you would rather not meet. Then again, I'm sometimes the guy you do not want to be with either.

BUT in THIS case, consider: I'm at a bus stop, just sitting there, texting Gwenny and waiting for the bus. Three young women, no older than 18, sat down and started talking about their latest escapade with a local young man. I tried to tune out the discussion. I am NOT interested in what you do, or with whom, how often, or who else was watching. Their loud discussion got through the iPod's music too.

While some people might have been titilated, I resented being turned into an involuntary voyeur.

End Rant.

Health: Wounds still healing, SGLs green. Took an HIV test to be sure I did not have any bio-surprises from my last relationship . . . nonreactive for HIV antibodies.
WoW: Marty is halfway to two bars from level 75. Should make 76 tomorrow night. Gwenny pulled a nice gun out of Naxx-10 last night.
Gwenny: Still going well.

Daily Bloggery 2009-03-17: Personal Day of Rememberance for Victims of Religious Persecution

For me, 17 March is NOT about corned beef and cabbage. Nor is it about green beer. Nor was it before my diagnosis with Type 2.
My rant from two years ago on the subject.

Daily Bloggery 2009-03-14: SQUEEEEEEEEEE!

π Day update:

Gwenny: Going very very well. By mutual consent (the changing of various social.net sites' Relationship Status fields) today -- is not π Day a geek holiday if there ever was one? -- marks the birth of our relationship. It's a bit insane, yes, to fall for someone like this. However, we fit. You know how some couples seem to think as though they have a single mind? We do. Not in the sense that there are only enough brain cells between us for a single functional brain (been there . . . ) but that the same thoughts are occurring at the same time to both of us.
Not to mention that her kids seem to like me . . . and her friends are sending me emails . . .
I've NEVER felt quite like this. Evah.
She's off with BOYD (the WoW Guild Bring Out Your Dead, on Kul Tiras. She's Yolhauni and Paharita) raiding. I told her to "Go loot something nice for yourself."

Daily Bloggery and Linky-linky: 2009-03-11

1. SotR: I'm kind of tired due to sleep dep. Kind of like that pushcart in Monty Python and the Holy Grail with the guy yelling "Bring Out Your Dead!" However, the lack of sleep has been in a very good cause. OMG what a cause . . . I'm not going to /disclose more just yet, except for the fact that I'm in a very good place. SGLs continue to be Green. YAY ME.

2. Baycon has gone from "definite maybe" to "I'm going. Period." Yes, this is related to item 1.

3. Effective immediately: Chuck Norris is no joke. I'm gonna utterly PWN the next WoW loudmouth who starts with the CN jokes.

4. Tech Republic needs to STFU with the FUD.

5. New talking iPod. Nice.

Daily Bloggery 2009-03-10

Thin update today.

1. "I did not have textual relations with that woman, Lorem Ipsum . . ." Every so often I get a call at work like this --
"My program has some strange language like Latin in it. Make it stop!"
If this happens to you, and you have a Mac -- don't panic. It's actually a textual placeholder used in layout work. Your Mac is not whack.

2. The (Dr.) Manhatten Project: At least the toy is not anatomically correct. May it get more "glowing" reviews than the film.

3. Serum Glucose is on target today. Feeling pretty good.

More Daily Bloggery 209-03-09

1. Runes pulled today (top) and Saturday (bottom) while pondering relationship matters. With the top cast, Isa (the vertical line) is the rune indicating stasis, as if frozen in ice. Well, that aptly describes the last three years on the relationship front! Othala (the middle or Present rune) mans property, legacy or the ancestors. Could my Norse ancestors be working on my behalf here? The Future rune, Thiriaz, is the rune of monsters, struggle and oppositionism. In other words, be prepared for struggle that changes me. "She changes everything she touches . . . "
The bottom set was pulled Saturday. The past is the aurochs, a rune indicating strength, animal passion. The present, Berkano, is the birch tree, renewal and rebirth. Dagaz is the dawn, new beginnings, that transcdental moment when the light bulb comes on and one's enlightenment value changes to "Gets It."
This has given me much to think about, and to hope for.

2. Medical: Wounds are still making progress. While at the doc's office, I heard a good one: "Step Away From The Nurses Or Nobody Will Get Healed."I have yet to meet a nurse at Kaiser who was anything short of phenomenal. I've had my share of doctors who were not quite right -- one badmouthed the pentacle I was wearing -- but never nurses.

3. Still seeking a new style sheet / template for the site.

Daily Bloggery 209-03-09

1. No meet-up with Raine tonight. Issued a Mark 1 Mod B (pun always intended) rain check. No worries.

2. SG Watch: Morning SGL was high (144mg/dl) because I slept in this morning and missed my usual dose time. Getting my dose helped drop it back to normal. This is a common weekend scenario for me.

3. Spent morning licking my brain to get the bad taste of The Watchmen (see previous post) out of my mind and playing WoW between rant-pulses.

4. New Theme for the blog: I'm still looking. I may say "fsck it" and go to a Wordpress theme.

5. Seanan's got some great new lyrics up.

6. FINALLY, O:M is two years old today. In that time the blog's focus has switched a bit from "Here's something I think is cool, and if I think it cool so will you" to "OMG! Rich is using his keyboard and the Internet for therapy." Yes, therapy. It meets my need for self-expression, can be done without a live audience, and it helps keep me functionally sane. It's also the freshest source for State of the Rich ("SotR") statements.

What, pray tell, is "functionally sane?" It's the ability to Get On With Life in spite of the endemic insanity and abject absurdity that passes for "reality" in the early 21st century. I believe that reality is fundamentally consensual, not an absolute immutable "given," the ultimate "variable function" in a mathematical sense. Since reality is different for each person (I'm definitely an Idealist), then coping mechanisms are equally idiosyncratic between individuals. This definitely constitutes a mental "file system consistency check" (fsck) that gives this blog its name.

So, thanks for putting up with my rantings reading O:M!
