Belated Birthday Bloggery 2009-11-09

1. Happy Birthday Michelle! You aren't getting older . . . I am:)

2. Happy Birthday to Meece's son, Sean! Get that nelf drood leveled!

3. And, finally, Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps, founded 11-10-1775. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt:

“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”

It's been awhile since I last blogged, this has mostly been due to a need for renewed focus at work, and an attempt to focus on raiding in WoW. Well, the later focus has crashed and burned like the Hindenburg.

Meece and I are out of Eclipsed -- the guild broke up like a gigging rock band -- and are now in a new, far more casual family / social leveling guild called Kilrogg Fighters. I'm taking a breather from raiding to level a brand-spanking-new Draenei Shaman. While I have the option of moving and / or faction changing another toon from, say, Kul Tiras, over here, the total cost of doing that all at once is Too Damn Much Money™ right now. Tyrantos is now Level 35 or so after slightly less than a week of spending every second of WoW-playing since creation playing him. The /played timer shows just over 2 days playtime spread over that period . . . so I'm leveling fast.

My secret? Tyrtrinos the death knight has access to the necessary resources to buy two "bind on account" Heirloom items that give bonii to earned experience for good old Tyrantos. The items scale with level, so they will be useful all the way to Level 80.

Daily Bloggery 2009-03-31: Back in Harness

1. Goal reviews tomorrow. I didn't make all of them (one or two SGL spikes, no DB for Sun-Mon), but I'm down another 2 lbs this weekend (made goal easily) and, well, I have a Gwenny now.

2. Health: SGLs are hard green, wound beds look nice and red. That is what is supposed to happen. My weight is down another two lbs. Gwenny -- thank Odinn -- had Healthful Foods™ available and is mindful of my issues.

3. Tomorrow is Apple's 33rd birfday. I'm going to celebrate by booting up at least one Mac.

Daily Bloggery 2009-03-19: Heaven Can't Wait . . . not Anymore

Health: 99 mg/dl last night, 124 mg/dl this morning -- happy happy green zone. Weigh in Friday. Nothing remarkable about the legs on Wed.

Tomorrow is David's birfday, which we will celebrate in the usual manner. I shall have more Kaia pics too.

On the Gwenny front, things are still going well. We had our talk last night in Vent. Thank you, Goddess, for bringing her to me (or me to her!). Nine Two Eight days until I haul my carcass onto the mighty AmTrak train to head to Fremont for the weekend.

SotR: 2009-02-22

Feeling a lot more back on balance after last week's general insanity. With DunDraCon over for another year and Awards Week done at work -- not to mention the career of one of my friends, likewise done -- I'm going to need sustained balance and focus.

On the health front, things look pretty good. The best news is that the legs are not exuding as much fluid as they have been, thanks to the diuretics my doc has prescribed. Less exudate means less tissue damage around the wound sites and improved healing. It also means less odor, which is career-preserving and promotes sociability, something I need for that all-elusive balance. The serum glucose levels have been good to fantastic. Except for a 150+ spike at DunDraCon (kind of expected, actually, thanks to all the literature I've read on traveling with diabetes), I've been in the 100-140 zone the doc says I need to be in. 80-140 is my Green zone, 140-150 is Yellow, 150+ is Red. I've even lost ten pounds the last couple of months.

Less than five weeks till I turn fifty. When I was younger I did not expect to live even half as long as this. Not because I was active suicidal, far from it. Simply put: I did not expect to survive my military service three decades ago. Even in "peacetime" actual accidents happen. Given that when diplomats and heads of state make mistakes, the price is often paid by people in uniform, I honestly expected that I would be one of the unlucky ones who came back in a box, or not at all. You see, I grew up in a time when scores of American kids a week were killing and dying in a foreign land. The casualty numbers came into my living room on the nighty news back then.

Well, as things turned out, I was spared that fate. For a time, I was a bit lost as to what to do with myself. My 20s and 30s were spent in search of cluses as to why I was spared. Evn my first major clue, delivered just after my 22nd birthday, was kind of lost on me at that time. By the time I hit 40, the accumulated clues began to make sense. Four years ago, the next clue came into actual being, the cutest little red headed clue-hammer the world has ever seen™. This summer, the Mjolinir of Clue Hammers will, with the Gods' blessings, will enter my life. And this time, I'm ready.

Now I am on the threshold of elderhood. All of my explorations, all of missteps, the vector sum of my life's journey this time 'round the Wheel, have made me ready.

Not to mention blessed.

Happy Birfday to Teh Iz
