I'm personally of the opinion that it is terribly irresponsible to own a ferret in a place where they are illegal, but I also think that it is stupid that they are illegal.
I dunno about this one; on the one hand, ferrets are wonderful companion animals, very smart and playful. On the other paw, if they escape and go feral, they can wipe out entire native species and disrupt some pretty fragile ecosystems(well, "native" insofar as what passes for "native" in post-Columbus times)....Can anyone say "Yellow Star Thistle"?
And of course, if ol' Rudy had no compassion for the homeless folks he had his police hound right out of the Times Square area so that Disney could turn it into a sanitized little themepark, how much sympathy is he going to have for the by-blow backwoods cousins of the weasel? (note: this is posted with tongue thoroughly in cheek, unlike my (rather shrill) previous post. It is almost three a.m., I have just finished watching "Serenity" (again!), just listening to my guinea pig chirp, and I really REALLY have to go to bed....

I'm more concerned about the fact that if you get caught owning a ferret in California, it results in a death sentence for the unfortunate pet.
