I was wrong.
Pretty scummy of BarakO's people, I say. Subtle, sneaky, brilliant and a lot of other adjectives as well.
Don't get me wrong: I am no fan of HRC. She's as much a creature of the (rather conservative) Democratic Leadership Council (the folks who helped bring us NAFTA, GATT, the WTO, et al) as ol' Bill was. She voted WRONG on the Iraq Authorization for the Use of Military Force back in '03, and unlike certain candidates with honor and, uhm, balls, she has never truly recanted her vote. She is yet another creature of the consultants and pollsters; a brand to be marketed and not someone stepping forward with passion, courage and a plan to get this nation out of the worst crisis of its history: the virtual destruction of our Constitution and the evisceration of the Bill of Rights. Despite this dirty trick, I cannot muster any sympathy for HRC.
I expected better than this from Senator Obama. Much better.
With HRC and Senator O now on my "I cannot support you" list, how about a look at some of the other Dem candidates (and, yes, my "compassion transplant back in '88 prevents me from voting Republican ever again):
Gov. Richardson: Nice job on taking a principled stand on medical marijuana. That took balls!
Gov. Richardson bears a very close second look.
General Clark: The good General was my horse back in 2004. I figure that a West Point graduate who was SACEUR (effectively Commander-in-Chief of NATO) during the Kosovo Crisis would be the ultimate "national security" candidate in the very first presidential election after 2001.09.11. Like the eventual nominee and so unlike the Republican opposition, he proved his personal courage as a young officer in Southeast Asia. The only problem here is that I am unsure about weather Gen. Clark is actually running.
Former Vice President Gore: The Man That Should Now Be Completing His Second Term As President is, like Clark, Not A Declared Candidate At This Time. The former VP has some baggage, being Bill Clinton's VP and all (not to mention that all those right-wing canards from the Y2K election are waiting in the wings). His stature has only risen during the Dark Times of the Cheney/Shrub years: winning an Oscar(tm) for An Inconvenient Truth, a Nobel Peace Prize nomination, a corporate board seat at Apple, etc.
Sen. Biden: OK, like Sen. Clinton, Joe Biden voted for the AUMF. Bad senator! Not only that, he's in large part responsible for the screw-the-middle-class bankruptcy bill last year. Again, Bad Senator! Bad, Bad Senator! I was about ready to write him off as just another DLC tool . . . then Sen. Biden turns around and does something heroic. While Sen. Biden, like John Kerry, has all the personal charisma of a small but tasteful soap dish (does spending time in the US Senate leech the charisma out of one's personality like drinking too much soda does for calcuim in the bones?), after The Evil That Was Cheney/Shrub, I'd much rather have someone in charge who knows what he is doing that a charismatic incompetent.
Former Sen. Edwards: He was by far the best campaigner of the major party candidates back in 2004, and he came within a whisker of getting the nomination over John Kerry. While his resume does not include any time spent in uniform, he was a trial lawyer who fought for people's rights in court. As I said above, he had the political courage to say, "I made a mistake" with respect to the 2003 AUMF.
Well, enough for now . . . .

Actually, unless you have more up-to-date info than mine (and you might), ONE person employed by the PR firm working for Obama's campaign made the video on his own time, at home, and posted it all on his own initiative. He has subsequently been fired from the firm for violating company policy forbidding independent work for or against any client or competitor.
